Reassign Recipient
Control whether recipients can reassign their signing step to someone else, and how authentication carries over.
Control whether recipients can reassign their signing step to someone else.
The "Assign to someone else" feature allows a recipient to delegate their signing responsibility to a different person during the signing session. The new recipient assumes their role entirely — all fields, actions, and signing requirements transfer automatically.
This feature is disabled by default. Enable it before sending an envelope if you want recipients to have this capability.
It's helpful when organisational signing authority is uncertain or when signatories delegate to colleagues. However, enabling it means the originally intended signer may not be the person who ultimately signs.
Enabling the feature
Go to Settings > Envelope preferences.
Turn on Allow recipients to reassign envelopes to someone else.
Once enabled, all recipients will see the reassignment option in the Actions menu during their signing session.
How security settings carry over
Any password or SMS two-factor authentication (2FA) applied to a recipient's signing step is preserved if they reassign to someone else.
Password: If password protection is required, the assignee must also receive a password. The original recipient provides this during reassignment — either reusing the same password or creating a new one.
SMS two-factor authentication: If SMS 2FA is enabled, the assignee must supply a mobile number to receive the verification code. The original recipient provides this during reassignment.
Security requirements follow the signing step itself, not the individual. Whoever ultimately signs must meet your original authentication standards.
